Statement Regarding Boy Scouts of America Settlement

The largest settlement in U.S. history in a child sexual abuse case was reached July 1, 2021, against the Boy Scouts of America. The Boy Scouts and its insurers will pay $850 million. More than 84,000 survivors are part of the class-action lawsuit.

The Younique Foundation expresses its support for all survivors of abuse and strives for the eradication of child sexual abuse and its effects. One in five children is sexually abused before age 18 in the U.S., and 80% are abused by someone they know and trust.

The Foundation reiterates the importance of parents, caregivers, and community leaders protecting children from sexual abuse. Through its Defend Innocence brand, the Foundation provides community and online resources that advocate for open discussion about this topic. Because sexual abuse thrives in secrecy, talking with your children and loved ones is critical to both reducing the risk of sexual abuse and responding to abuse when it occurs.
